The Californian Church of Stand Up Comedy

Rebuilding a sense of community after the devastation of the LA wildfires is central to our mission. As part of the city’s Phase 2 + Phase 3 recovery efforts and beyond, we are committed to helping young adults and individuals of all ages process trauma and rebuild their lives through the transformative art of stand-up comedy. By teaching stand-up comedy and comedy writing, we aim to foster healing, connection, and joy across the communities most affected by the wildfires, including those in Altadena, Pasadena, and beyond. We propose a second charter of comedy classes for Pacific Palisades/Malibu.

Our vision focuses on creating inclusive and supportive spaces where people can explore their stories and transform their experiences into comedic expression. Led by experienced stand-up comedians, our workshops provide participants with the tools to turn personal challenges into humor, building resilience and a sense of community in the process. We are actively seeking locations in fire-impacted neighborhoods to serve as hubs for these rebuilding efforts.

This initiative is designed to reach people of all backgrounds, with a special emphasis on young adults and underrepresented groups. Through outreach programs in stand-up comedy and sitcom writing, we aim to inspire creativity, mentorship, and connection. Live comedy workshops and shows offer participants the chance to discover new perspectives, find their voice, and reconnect with others in their community.

The Californian Church of Stand-Up Comedy, Los Angeles, is dedicated to inclusivity and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We proudly welcome everyone, including members of the LGBTQI community, into our programs. Our mission is to unite and uplift Los Angeles through the healing power of laughter.

To bring this vision to life, we urgently seek grants, donations, and tax-free gifts. These contributions will enable us to expand our teaching programs, offer more workshops, and provide resources to support fire-affected communities. Together, we can rebuild, reconnect, and heal through the art of comedy, one laugh at a time.

The support I've received has truly made a difference in my life. I've had the opportunity to attend stand-up comedy workshops and participate in a one-day, in-person "Writing for Sitcoms" class as part of the outreach program. The sense of community here feels like an extension of a close-knit comedy family.

The pop up stand-up comedy-based sermons are a unique and inspiring blend of prayer, comedy, and music—a combination that uplifts and connects on a profound level. Comedy has saved my life time and time again, and being part of this community has breathed new life into me.

I’m also deeply grateful for the support I received during the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. This community has not only helped me heal but has empowered me to move forward with hope and creativity.
