Urgent: Help Us Bring Stand-Up Comedy to Wildfire-Affected Communities

Laughter Heals: Support Our Mission to Rebuild Community After the Los Angeles Wildfires

In the wake of the devastating wildfires that have displaced families and disrupted entire communities in Los Angeles, rebuilding cannot just be about structures—it must be about restoring community, connection, and hope. While first responders and relief organizations focus on providing immediate shelter, food, and clothing, the next phase of recovery must focus on rebuilding the human spirit.

We are a group of professional comedians living and performing in Los Angeles who are committed to using the healing power of comedy to help communities recover. Some of us were personally displaced for a night, while others lost much more. Through it all, we have seen how laughter creates resilience in times of crisis.

During the pandemic, we performed in parking lots and outdoor spaces just to keep comedy alive. Now, in response to the devastation caused by the wildfires in Altadena, Pasadena, Malibu, and Pacific Palisades, we are prepared to teach stand-up comedy in parking lots, community centers, and pop-up spaces—wherever we can bring people together.

We have already successfully launched a mobile comedy classroom model, providing free stand-up comedy workshops to underserved communities. We are now expanding this initiative to reach wildfire-affected areas, helping residents process their experiences, regain confidence, and reconnect with their neighbors—all through the power of storytelling and humor.

What We Need: Funding to Expand Our Mobile Comedy Classroom Model

Each pop-up comedy classroom costs approximately $1,750 to set up, including:

  • PA systems and microphones – Essential for creating an authentic comedy stage experience.

  • Teaching materials and workbooks – Covering joke writing, comedic storytelling, and performance techniques (we need help with printing costs).

  • Van rentals and transportation – Ensuring our team can bring mobile classrooms directly into affected communities.

  • Low-cost or donated spaces – While we are prepared to teach in parking lots, we are also reaching out to comedy clubs, community centers, and local venues willing to host our workshops.

We are ideally seeking $3,500 in donations to set up two additional charters and mobile classrooms in Altadena/Eaton Fires and Malibu/Pacific Palisades.

Why This Matters: Rebuilding Community Through Comedy

The trauma caused by wildfires, evacuations, and displacement does not end when the flames are extinguished. Survivors often face long-term emotional and psychological challenges, including stress, anxiety, and a sense of disconnection from their community.

Comedy is more than just entertainment—it is a powerful tool for healing and resilience.

By learning the fundamentals of stand-up comedy, storytelling, and public speaking, participants in our workshops gain:

  • A voice to express their experiences in a creative and constructive way.

  • A boost in confidence as they perform in a supportive, encouraging environment.

  • A sense of belonging by forming meaningful connections with others in their community.

  • An opportunity to find humor in difficult situations, fostering resilience and mental well-being.

For the past six months, we have successfully run free Saturday and Sunday comedy workshops, proving that this model works. Now, it’s time to expand and bring these healing opportunities to those who need them most.

How You Can Help: Support Wildfire Recovery Through the Arts

We are calling on philanthropic organizations, donors, and individuals who believe in the power of community-building and the arts to support this mission.

Ways to Contribute Today

  • Make a tax-deductible donation – Every dollar goes directly toward funding the equipment, transportation, and materials needed to expand these workshops.

  • Sponsor a comedy classroom – A full sponsorship of $1,750 covers the cost of setting up one mobile comedy workshop in a wildfire-affected area.

  • Help us secure grant funding – If you are a grant writer or connected to foundations that support arts education, trauma recovery, or disaster relief, we need your help.

  • Donate or sponsor a venue – We are looking for comedy clubs, community centers, schools, and local businesses willing to provide space for these workshops.

  • Share our mission – Spread the word about our campaign to business leaders, media contacts, and social impact organizations.

The Impact of Your Support

Your donation is not just funding a comedy class—it is helping wildfire survivors regain their confidence, rediscover joy, and rebuild a sense of community.

In times of crisis, mental health support, social connection, and shared experiences are just as important as physical reconstruction. By supporting this initiative, you are investing in the long-term well-being of wildfire-affected communities and helping them rebuild through the transformative power of comedy.

Together, We Can Bring Laughter, Healing, and Connection to Wildfire-Affected Communities
